Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona, during a news conference, advises the public to practice a healthy lifestyle by engaging in regular exercise, avoiding salty and fatty foods, not smoking, and limiting intake of alcoholic beverages as the Department of Health observes February as ‘Heart Month’. Ona stressed that diseases of the heart and the vascular system now ranks as the country’s top killer diseases. He also said that about 90% of Filipinos today are positive for one or more risk factors like physical inactivity, smoking, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, obesity and diabetes.
