Ten Principles for Peace of Mind

This is so true….  If there's peace, there's happiness….  Wishing you all happiness from within… (MMirasol)

10 PRINCIPLES for Peace of Mind
image005.gif1. Do Not Interfere In Others' Business Unless Asked.  Most of us create our own problems by interfering too often in others' affairs. We do so because somehow we have convinced ourselvesthat our way is the best way, our logic is the perfect logic and those who do not conform to our thinking must be criticized and steered to the right direction, our direction. This thinking denies the existence of individuality and consequently the existence of God.  God has created each one of us in a unique way. No two human beings can think or act in exactly the same way. All men or women act theway they do because God within them prompts them that way. There is God to look after everything. Why are you bothered? Mind your own business and you will keep your peace.
image005.gif2. Forgive And Forget.  This is the most powerful aid to peace of mind. We often develop ill feelings inside our heart for the person who insults us or harms us. We nurture grievances. This in turn results in loss of sleep, development of stomach ulcers, and high blood pressure. This insult or injury was done once, but nourishing of grievance goes on forever by constantly remembering it. Get over this bad habit. Believe in thejustice of God and the doctrine of destiny. Let Him judge the act of the one who insulted you. Life is too short to waste in such trifles.  Forgive, Forget, and march on. Love flourishes in giving and forgiving.
image005.gif3. Do Not Crave For Recognition.  This world is full of selfish people. They seldom praise anybody without selfish motives. They may praise you today because you are inpower, but no sooner than you are powerless, they will forget your achievement and will start finding faults in you. Why do you wish to kill yourself in striving for their recognition? Their recognition is not worth the aggravation. Do your duties ethically and sincerely andleave the rest to God.
image005.gif4. Do Not Be Jealous.  We all have experienced how jealousy can disturb our peace of mind.  You know that you work harder than your colleagues in the office, butsometimes they get promotions; you do not. You started a business several years ago, but you are not as successful as your neighbor whose business is only one year old. There are several examples like these in everyday life. Should you be jealous? No. Remembereverybody's life is shaped by his/her destiny, which has now become his/her reality. If you are destined to be rich, nothing in the worldcan stop you. If you are not so destined, no one can help you either.  Nothing will be gained by blaming others for your misfortune. Jealousy will not get you anywhere; it will only take away your peace of mind.
image005.gif5. Change Yourself According To The Environment.  If you try to change the environment single-handedly, the chances are you will fail. Instead, change yourself to suit your environment. Asyou do this, even the environment, which has been unfriendly to you, will mysteriously change and seem congenial and harmonious.
image005.gif6. Endure What Cannot Be Cured.  This is the best way to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. Every day we face numerous inconveniences, ailments, irritations, andaccidents that are beyond our control. If we cannot control them or change them, we must learn to put up with these things. We must learnto endure them cheerfully thinking, "God wills it so, so be it." God's plan is beyond our comprehension. Believe in it and you willgain in terms of patience, inner strength and will power.
image005.gif7. Do Not Bite Off More Than You Can Chew.  This maxim needs to be remembered constantly. We often tend to take more responsibilities than we are capable of carrying out. This isdone to satisfy our ego. Know your limitations. Why take on additional loads that may create more worries? You cannot gain peace of mindby expanding your external activities. Reduce your material engagements and spend time in prayer, introspection and meditation. This will reduce those thoughts in your mind that make you rest less.  Uncluttered mind will produce greater peace of mind.
image005.gif8. Meditate Regularly.  Meditation calms the mind and gets rid of disturbing thoughts. This is the highest state of peace of mind. Try and experience ityourself. If you meditate earnestly for half an hour everyday, your mind will tend to become peaceful during the remaining twenty-three and half-hours. Your mind will not be easily disturbed as it was before. You would benefit by gradually increasing the period of dailymeditation. You may think that this will interfere with your daily work. On the contrary, this will increase your efficiency and you
will be able to produce better results in less time.

image005.gif9. Never Leave The Mind Vacant.  An empty mind is the devil's workshop. All evil actions start in the vacant mind. Keep your mind occupied in something positive, somethingworthwhile. Actively follow a hobby. Do something that holds your interest. You must decide what you value more: money or peace of mind. Your hobby, like social work or religious work, may not always earn you more money, but you will have a sense of fulfillment andachievement. Even when you are resting physically, occupy yourself in healthy reading or mental chanting of God's name.
image005.gif10. Do not waste time in protracted wondering " Should I or shouldn't I?"  Days, weeks, months, and years may be wasted in that futile mental debating. You can never plan enough because you can never anticipateall future happenings. Always remember, God has His own plan, too for you. Value your time and do the things that need to be done. It doesnot matter if you fail the first time. You can learn from your mistakes and succeed the next time. Sitting back and worrying will lead to nothing. Learn from your mistakes, but do not brood over the past. DO NOT REGRET. Whatever happened was destined to happen onlythat way. Take it as the Will of God. You do not have the power to alter the course of God's Will. Why cry over spilt milk?

Top Cancer-Fighting Foods

Fighting Cancer by the Plateful

No single food can reduce your risk of cancer, but the right combination of foods may help make a difference. At mealtimes, strike a balance of at least 2/3 plant-based foods and no more than 1/3 animal protein. This "New American Plate" is an important cancer fighting tool, according to the American Institute for Cancer Research. Check out better and worse choices for your plate.

1.jpg

Fighting Cancer With Color

Fruits and vegetables are rich in cancer-fighting nutrients - and the more color, the more nutrients they contain. These foods can help lower your risk in a second way, too, when they help you reach and maintain a healthy body weight. Carrying extra pounds increases the risk for multiple cancers, including colon, esophagus, and kidney cancers. Aim for at least five servings a day, prepared in a healthy way.

2.jpg

The Cancer-Fighting Breakfast

Folate is an important B vitamin that may help protect against cancers of the colon, rectum, and breast. You can find it in abundance on the breakfast table. Fortified breakfast cereals and whole wheat products are good sources of folate. So are orange juice, melons, and strawberries.

3.jpg

More Folate-Rich Foods

Other good sources of folate are asparagus and eggs. You can also find it in chicken liver, beans, sunflower seeds, and leafy green vegetables like spinach or romaine lettuce. According to the ACS, the best way to get folate is not from a pill, but by eating enough fruits, vegetables, and enriched grain products.

4.jpg

Pass Up the Deli Counter

An occasional Reuben sandwich or hot dog at the ballpark probably isn't going to hurt you. But cutting back on processed meats like bologna, ham, and hot dogs may help lower your risk of colorectal and stomach cancers. Also, eating meats that have been preserved by smoking or with salt raises your exposure to agents that can potentially cause cancer.

5.jpg

Cancer-Fighting Tomatoes

Whether it's the lycopene -- the pigment that gives tomatoes their red color -- or something else isn't clear. But some studies have linked eating tomatoes to reduced risk of several types of cancer, including prostate cancer. Studies also suggest that processed tomato products such as juice, sauce, or paste increase the cancer-fighting potential.

6.jpg

Tea's Anticancer Potential

Even though the evidence is still spotty, tea, especially green tea, may be a strong cancer fighter. In laboratory studies, green tea has slowed or prevented the development of cancer in colon, liver, breast, and prostate cells. It also had a similar effect in lung tissue and skin. And in some longer term studies, tea was associated with lower risks for bladder, stomach, and pancreatic cancers.

7.jpg

Grapes and Cancer

Grapes and grape juice, especially purple and red grapes, contain resveratrol. Resveratrol has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In laboratory studies, it has prevented the kind of damage that can trigger the cancer process in cells. There is not enough evidence to say that eating grapes or drinking grape juice or wine can prevent or treat cancer.

8.jpg

Limit Alcohol to Lower Cancer Risk

Cancers of the mouth, throat, larynx, esophagus, liver, and breast are all linked with drinking alcohol. Alcohol may also raise the risk for cancer of the colon and rectum. The American Cancer Society says that even the suggested daily limit of 2 drinks for men and 1 for women elevates the risk. Women at higher risk for breast cancer may want to talk with a doctor about what amount of alcohol, if any, is safe based on their personal risk factors.

9.jpg

Water and Other Fluids Can Protect

Water not only quenches your thirst, but it may protect you against bladder cancer. The lower risk comes from water diluting concentrations of potential cancer-causing agents in the bladder. Also, drinking more fluids causes you to urinate more frequently. That lessens the amount of time those agents stay in contact with the bladder lining.

10.jpg

The Mighty Bean

Beans are so good for you, it's no surprise they may help fight cancer, too. They contain several potent phytochemicals that may protect the body's cells against damage that can lead to cancer. In the lab these substances slowed tumor growth and prevented tumors from releasing substances that damage nearby cells.

11.jpg

The Cabbage Family vs. Cancer

Cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, bok choy, and kale. These members of the cabbage family make an excellent stir fry and can really liven up a salad. But most importantly, components in these vegetables may help your body defend against cancers such as colon, breast, lung, and cervix.

12.jpg

Dark Green Leafy Vegetables

Dark green leafy vegetables such as mustard greens, lettuce, kale, chicory, spinach, and chard have an abundance of fiber, folate, and carotenoids. These nutrients may help protect against cancer of the mouth, larynx, pancreas, lung, skin, and stomach.

13.jpg

Protection From an Exotic Spice

Curcumin is the main ingredient in the Indian spice turmeric and a potential cancer fighter. Lab studies show it can suppress the transformation, proliferation, and invasion of cancerous cells for a wide array of cancers.

14.jpg

Cooking Methods Matter

How you cook meat can make a difference in how big a cancer risk it poses. Frying, grilling, and broiling meats at very high temperatures causes chemicals to form that may increase cancer risk. Other cooking methods such as stewing, braising, or steaming appear to produce fewer of those chemicals. And when you do stew the meat, remember to add plenty of healthy, protective vegetables.

15.jpg

A Berry Medley With a Punch

Strawberries and raspberries have a phytochemical called ellagic acid. This powerful antioxidant may actually fight cancer in several ways at once, including deactivating certain cancer causing substances and slowing the growth of cancer cells.

16.jpg

Blueberries for Health

The potent antioxidents in blueberries may have wide value in supporting our health, starting with cancer. Antioxidants fight cancer by ridding the body of free radicals before they can do their damage to cells. Try topping oatmeal, cold cereal, yogurt, even salad with blueberries to boost your intake of these healthful berries.

17.jpg

Pass on the Sugar

Sugar may not cause cancer directly. But it may displace other nutrient-rich foods that help protect against cancer. And it increases calorie counts, which contributes to overweight and obesity. Excess weight can be a cancer risk. Fruit offers a sweet alternative in a vitamin-rich package.

18.jpg

Don't Rely on Supplements

Vitamins may help protect against cancer. But that's when you get them naturally from food. Both the American Cancer Society and the American Institute for Cancer Research emphasize that getting cancer-fighting nutrients from foods like nuts, fruits, and green leafy vegetables is vastly superior to getting them from supplements. Eating a healthy diet is best.

Fwd: FW: GLOBAL WARMING DOCU

Save Planet Earth

What you throw today does not really go away. It goes to  a landfill. If it's not biodegradable, it would still be in the landfill even after 50 years. You have the choice to leave a legacy in this world and it doesn't have to be trash.

Simple Steps at Work on How to Save the Planet

Maybe it's because we don't think of our office as our home, or we believe that if someone else is responsible for taking care of our paychecks, then they are responsible for our trash, too.  Currently, business offices have become major contributors to waste.

An average worker uses 10,000 sheets of paper each year.  It is a fact that a lot of office electricity is used to light offices even when they are vacant or when there is sufficient natural light to go without overhead lighting.  In addition to this, office buildings are responsible for more than 10 percent of all the water used.  Food waste is another problem.  But the office supply room contributes the most to the office waste problem, with tons of paper, pens, paper clips, and rubber bands being needlessly tossed out.

Keeping all that in mind, here are some things we can do individually to help work for the environment at the office.

Getting To Work

  • Keeping your tires fully inflated could improve your gas mileage by around three (3) percent.  It also makes your tires last longer.
  • Try to take public transportation.  Fewer cars on the road significantly reduce commuting time.  People spend an average of 36 hours – nearly five full workdays – in traffic delays per year.
  • Better yet, try carpooling.  This will save time and money.

Having A Break

  • Don't use disposable stirrers.  Just pour in your sugar and milk first then add coffee.
  • Use silverware and plates, not plasticware, in the cafeteria if you have a choice.
  • Choose glass or ceramic containers that can be reused in storing food.  They're healthier than plastic, and you'll reduce the waste generated.
  • Bring your lunch from home if you can.  A disposable lunch creates between four and eight ounces of garbage everyday.
  • Try to use fewer paper napkins.
  • Request less packaging when you order your food to go.

In The Workplace

  • Try using a correction pen as opposed to bottled correction fluid.  It won't dry out as fast, and you'll likely use less.
  • Use postconsumer recycled envelopes.
  • When transmitting a fax message, avoid a cover page when possible.  You'll save paper on both ends of the transmission.
  • Reuse your paper clips.
  • Try to use refillable pens, pencils, and markers.  Disposable plastic pens aren't recyclable, nor are they biodegradable.  Throw one away, and it will still be in a landfill fifty thousand years from now.
  • Print double-sided pages, and use an inkjet if you can.  Laser printers use 300 watts of electricity, while inkjets use only ten.
  • Avoid using rubber bands if you can.  About three-quarters of rubber bands are synthetic, made from crude oil.
  • Activate the power management function, or sleep mode, on your monitors and CPU boxes.
  • Turn off your office lights if natural light from the sun is available.  You'll get less eye fatigue due to glare.

FDA: FOOD PRODUCTS FROM TAIWAN BEING MONITORED

Press Release/28 May 2011

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director Suzette H. Lazo, MD today assured the public that food products and food additives imported from Taiwan are being monitored after the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) informed the Philippine government of possible contamination of Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP).

Widely used as a plasticizer in the manufacturing of articles such as intravenous bags and tubings, blood bags and infusion tubings and nasogastric tubes, DEHP was found to be illegally added to a food product raw material intended for emulsification. While low doses of DEHP are generally safe, high doses or prolonged exposure can have harmful effects. Children are especially prone to the harmful effects of high doses of DEHP or to repeated exposure which can lead to testicular effects, fertility problems and toxicity to kidneys.

The Taiwan government has informed the Department of Health that a company may have imported food products containing additives contaminated by DEHP to the Philippines.  Efforts to trace local counterpart of this company are currently in progress.

Fwd: FW: Where to Go During an Earthquake

There’s no harm in making sure we know what to do in case of an earthquake. This morning, Headstart with Karen Davila on ANC featured earthquake preparedness in the Philippines. Her "expert" guess said that the Marikina to Tagaytay fault line is "due" to shift. If you can get the opportunity to view it on your computers, please do so as it was very informative.

The more we know what to do, the safer we can keep our families. Please share the info below and study the photographs to have a full understanding of what we need to do to survive. Teach your household help also....your entire neighborhood, if need be.

What with all these earthquakes popping up everywhere even in places not supposed to occur...read this!!!!

Subject: Where to Go During an Earthquake

This is the text version of my earlier email styled

further elucidating on the life-saving concept of "The Triangle of Life"....

Folks, please SHARE, SHARE, SHARE this with your loved ones:

Where to Go During an Earthquake

Remember that stuff about hiding under a table or standing in a doorway? Well, forget it! This is a real eye opener. It could save your life someday.

EXTRACT FROM DOUG COPP'S ARTICLE ON 'THE TRIANGLE OF LIFE'

My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI ), the world's most experienced rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake.

I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many countries. I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years, and have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under its desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene -- unnecessary.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them - NOT under them. This space is what I call the 'triangle of life'. The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the 'triangles' you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building.

TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY

1) Most everyone who simply 'ducks and covers' when building collapse are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a bed, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different 'moment of frequency' (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get near the outer walls of buildings or outside of them if possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Spread the word and save someone's life...

The entire world is experiencing natural calamities so be prepared!

'We are but angels with one wing, it takes two to fly'

In 1996 we made a film, which proved my survival methodology to be correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul , University of Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten mannequins did 'duck and cover,' and ten mannequins I used in my 'triangle of life' survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the results. The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly observable, scientific conditions , relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and cover.

There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the 'triangle of life.' This film has been seen by millions of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in the USA , Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.

"Triangle of Life":

Without listening or reading, simply by looking at the following self-explanatory photos, you can learn more than in a thousand words about how to protect yourself during a major earthquake...

If you are inside a vehicle, come out and sit or lie down next to it. If something falls on the vehicle, it will leave an empty space along the sides. See below:
